for Social & Economic Development
The Polus Center uses a person-centered, holistic approach to victim assistance. This process begins with extensive interviews with potential service recipients in order to gain a deeper understanding of their lives. Person-centered means providing assistance based upon an individual’s actual needs as opposed to addressing the perceived needs of a larger group or target population. The term holistic refers to taking into account mental and social factors in addition to physical symptoms when treating a person.
A single form of assistance - such as providing a micro-loan or an artificial limb - may be helpful, but has little value if the person has other pressing needs, such as psychological trauma, lack of food security, or serious health issues. The Polus Center works closely with other human service professionals so that a full range of rehabilitation services, economic opportunities, and health care can be accessed so that each individual gets the right support in the right manner.

Find A Better Way and Sir Bobby Charlton have furthered the campaign of healing and hope by partnering with Polus Center and Asia Development Training to open a new facility in Amman, Jordan. The Sir Bobby Charlton Centre for Support and Rehabilitation opened it’s doors this summer, building national capacity to care for and provide a full range of physical and psychological rehabilitation services to Syrian refugee children and war wounded civilian victims of conflict.
The Polus Center for Social & Economic Development, Inc., would like to thank the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Political-Military Affairs/Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement (PM/WRA). It is through many years of partnership and support that we provide these life changing services to Syrian children and their families.
Many thanks to the Dorothea Haus Ross Foundation who in December 2015, stepped in to support the Wings of Peace initiative. This innovative expressive therapy program was established specifically to address the psychological traumas experienced by the children.
